Unit 5 - How to approach this course >>> 3 ways to NOT FAIL!

As you’ve probably gathered by now – I am super passionate about online courses as a brilliant way of adding an additional income stream and future-proof your blog.

I believe by following this course, you can unlock the incredible power of online courses too. I really want that for you! And for that reason, I really, really want you to COMPLETE THIS COURSE!

But I also know that fitting a course into an already busy life can be tough, and I know that many, many bloggers start courses and never finish them.

I don’t want that to be the case with this course. Which is the reason for this unit – specifically I have created this unit to help you work out how you are going to fit this course into your life.

I suggest 3 great ways to approach this course >>>

The 8 Week Plan

My strapline for this course is 'Everything you need to create and launch a successful online course in just 8 weeks'. So the 'ideal' way to approach this course is to clear your calendar and work through the modules of this course over the next 8 weeks.

You don't have to work on it 24/7 though! To go from zero to fully fledged course launch, you will probably need to set aside 3-4 hours per day, 5 days a week.

The way I have put together this course means you will work through the course materials and then have specific action steps to do at the end of most units. By the time you've finished the course, you'll also have created and launched your online course!

You can find my COMPLETE 8 WEEK COURSE PROJECT PLAN in the Bonus Unit at the end of this module.

However, I completely understand that not everyone will be able to block out 3-4 hours per day for the next 8 weeks. If that's your situation, that's totally OK. Just work at it at your own pace. Here are 2 alternative approaches if the 8 Week Plan approach doesn't work for you.

A little bit every day

If 3-4 hours a day is too much, then just do a little bit every day. I have broken this course down into manageable chunks so you can do a small chunk every day. I recommend with this approach you make an appointment with yourself at a set time each day to do a set amount – maybe 30 minutes a day from 10.30 to 11am.

Try to schedule your ‘Online Course Jumpstart time’ early in the day. In my experience, anything left to the end of the day doesn’t get done! And be disciplined – set an alarm or a reminder on your phone. When the alarm goes off, stop what you are doing and spend 30 minutes on this course. At the end of the 30 minutes, stop, and go back to what you were doing before. By following this approach, you will make good progress every day and it will soon become part of your routine. (Hopefully a part that you really look forward to every day!)

Scheduled blocks

This final approach is to treat this course like an in-person course you do once a week or twice a week. For example, you might decide to treat Fridays as your Online Course Jumpstart day. You do all the rest of your work Monday to Thursday and then do nothing but this course on Fridays. Alternatively, you could plan to do this course for 3 hours on a Tuesday afternoon and 4 hours on a Saturday morning – or whatever suits your schedule.

ACTION STEPS

  1. Pick one of these options NOW and make it a commitment by putting the dates and times in the diary and notifying anyone who needs to know that you are unavailable at those times.
